8 Amazing Rocket Cats Inspired by a 16th Century Manual on Rocket Cats

A manuscript was recently uncovered that featured, among other things, a cat and bird with what appeared to be ROCKETS strapped to their backs:
This illustration comes from a 1584 manuscript. But it's not the only one! Another one, from a 1590 book of instruction for a cannon master, turned up:
My taaaaaail! Ow ow ow

A few more were uncovered as the story of the rocket cat spread:
"I say, Friedrich, have I a rocket on my back?"
"Indeed you do, Hans."
"Well. How inconvenient."
Fun fact: Along with the rocket, this cat has a nightmare face

Additionally, some research in Germany uncovered a manuscript that described how these rocket animals were used:
"Create a small sack like a fire-arrow ... if you would like to get at a town or castle, seek to obtain a cat from that place. And bind the sack to the back of the cat, ignite it, let it glow well and thereafter let the cat go, so it runs to the nearest castle or town, and out of fear it thinks to hide itself where it ends up in barn hay or straw it will be ignited."

So basically: you steal a cat, put a crude bomb on its back, let it go home, and it burns down the town. That's not NEARLY as fun as a rocket cat, so we made some of those for you to look at.
