These trends have to go.

In many human cultures, weddings are one of the most important days of a person's life. In the United States, weddings were once a relatively casual affair, where the bride would wear her best dress - not a special dress bought for the occasion - and the couple's friends and family would be invited for a meal and a simple celebration. But in our modern times, the wedding industry has exploded into a billion-dollar industry. Brides spend thousands or even tens of thousands on a dress they plan to wear once in their life. People invite hundreds of guests to a celebration, some of whom they will never see again in their life. But other couples eschew the wedding frippery and have a more simple ceremony, with only a few attendees, or they even just go to city hall and get married.

Whichever way you choose, SOMEONE is going to have an opinion on it (probably your mother), so the best wedding advice we can think of is: do what YOU want. Don't do something because someone else thinks you should, or because it's "tradition." It's your day. You should enjoy it. The wedding industrial complex wants you to have a big wedding. They want to to go all out with flowers, with flatware, with a dress that actually cost more than your first car. And one thing the wedding industrial complex loves is TRENDS. These things are either trendy enough that we're sick of them...or they should never have been trends in the first place. If you did one of these at your wedding, that's great...just admit that you were influenced by Pinterest. Get Started
